WHAT WE ARE DOING
WHY WE ARE DOING IT
collaboratively writing a project thesis statement and developing a project name
as the first activity with your new partner, this will unify your concepts and direct your future work
When writing an essay, a thesis statement is a sentence that states the topic and purpose of your writing. A good thesis statement will direct the structure of your essay and will allow your reader to understand the ideas you will discuss within your paper.
A thesis statement for a creative project serves a similar purpose. This statement will guide your research and prototyping throughout the creative process.
1st Thesis Statement
Defining the thesis of your project is an important step. It may take multiple drafts to get it right. This thesis can evolve over the course of the design process. Ask others to critique your words.
The Climbclaw is an attachment that helps users in climbing things like spiderman. It is made out of cardboard and has spikes.

1st Thesis Statement
1st Thesis Statement
Write 1–2 sentences to explain your drawing machine idea.
- What inspired your machine? (art style, mechanism, precedent ...)
- How does your machine move or interact with the medium?
- What qualities—texture, pattern, randomness, repetition, density—do you want the marks to convey? How do these qualities reflect your artistic intention?
- What do you want people to notice or feel when they see the marks it creates?
Your title should be short, catchy, and descriptive. Keep it simple and playful – One or two words is enough. Avoid long sentences or complicated phrases.
Examples:
- Swinging Paint → Mechanism + Medium
2nd Sketching
Sketching is the first step in bringing your ideas to life. It’s a way to quickly capture and explore different concepts on paper.
Why Sketch? Sketching helps you visualize your thoughts, experiment with shapes, and work out design problems before moving to more detailed work.
- Start Simple: Begin with basic shapes and lines to represent your ideas.
- Explore Ideas: Don’t worry about making it perfect; use your sketches to explore different possibilities.
- Add Details: Once you’re happy with the basic shape, you can start adding more details and refining your design.
Create three small sketches (like a mini comic strip) that show how your art bot moves to create the final artwork.
Frame 1 – Starting Position
Draw your machine before it starts moving.
- Where is the marker or tool? Where is the paper?
- What mechanism is about to move?
Frame 2 – Movement
Show the machine in action.
- Draw arrows to show movement (spin, swing, lift, slide).
- Show how the marker touches the paper.
Frame 3 – Final Artwork
Show the result of the movement.
- What marks did the machine create? Lines, dots, splashes, spirals, or patterns?
2nd Sketching
is project is an interactive device that translates spatial distance into brush strokes through a motorized rail system. By using an ultrasonic sensor to measure how far away an object is, the system sends data to a carriage—the "sliding brush"—equipped with vibrating motors that increase in intensity as the detected item gets closer. This setup essentially creates a tactile map of the environment, allowing a user to "feel" the proximity of obstacles through the slider's vibration rather than relying on sight, making it a clever prototype for sensory substitution or accessible navigation tools.

Description
A concept thesis is an important step in starting a collaborative partner project. We will use this time to combine ideas and arrive at the conceptual directions of our projects.
Instructions
Start by sharing the ideas that each partner brought to the brainstorming and what conclusions we arrived at by the end of the session. Take time to figure out shared interests and begin to draft both a project name and a thesis statement of what you will build.
Deliverables
At the end of this activity, each partnership should have a draft of a project name and a draft of a project concept thesis.
